The danger of the internet is that it’s very very easy to tell partial truths—to show the fabulous meal but not the mess to clean up afterward. To display the smiling couple-shot, but not the fight you had three days ago. To offer up the sparkly milestones but not the spiraling meltdowns.

Generally, the more someone wants to show me something - the less I want to see it (and vice-versa.) One could just as easily imply the super-tasty meal by sharing a photograph of the satisfactory bowel movement the following morning.

And thus the issues of photography in general become compacted with the intensity of image sharing in modern culture, which are compacted by everyone’s hyper awareness, general smarts, and the collective consciousness becoming more and more aware of the spiral that I’m describing in this run on sentence.

What I wonder is where are we going with all this? What’s next? Will it stop? Will we, as a whole, the big we, become frightened of this and turn back the way we came? I can’t even fathom what is down the other road, where this all continues, and we keep going. We keep sharing. Homogenization.

I don’t think we’re headed on an endless line anywhere in particular. Culture heaves in and eats itself and gives birth again all the goddamn time. We’ve been gluttons for endless nostalgia over the last decade plus, but now we have real literacy in new technologies that will certainly allow us to craft our own, new-(ish) cultural landscape.

It could be great. It could also be terrible.

Sunrises are wonderful, but let’s not forget that moonrises are also beautiful to behold. Los Angeles-based artist and motion designer Dan Marker-Moore created the awesome photo and gif you see above revealing the path of the moon as it rose over Los Angeles. The photo is actually a combination of 11 separate photos taken over the course of 27 minutes and 59 seconds.

Roadsworth is a street artist based in Montreal who literally turns the street into his canvas with pieces that are awesome in scale, cleverness, and playful creativity.

“Though born Peter Gibson, he chose the name Roadsworth because, as he states, ‘Where Wordsworth is a poet of words, Roadsworth is a poet of roads.’

Though he started painting on the streets as a form of activism (for more bike paths), his motivation later evolved into a more personal one. It became his alternative form of expression, a creative outlet if you will. Currently his works all have an aspect of protest in them, a way for Roadsworth to comment on today’s social issues or, as he says, “simply protest against the mundaneness of the urban landscape.”

A punny ice cream parlour in Barcelona, Spain named Eyescream sells shaved ice cream imported from Taiwan that they serve up with tasty pairs of sauces and toppings and… wait for it… googly eyes made of sugar.

So your sweet frozen treat stares up at you while you eat it. Is the ice cream creature paralyzed with fear or excited that you’re about to enjoy it? It’s important to consider what one’s personified food might be thinking, so these are the questions we ask ourselves.
